On Thursday night, hurricane Helene shakes Florida’s big region. It was classified as a category four storm with potential damage and loss of life. The entire state was put on alert and thousands of people had to evacuate from the town because there were signs of big danger.
Hurricane Helene has now changed to tropical storm, it is less severe but there are still chances of danger. The high authorities have alerted people to stay safe as strong winds and rainfalls are still a threat to the people of Florida, Georgia and Carolinas.
What happened when Hurricane Helene hit Florida?
On Thursday night, at 03:10 GMT, hurricane Helene made landfall with sustained speed of winds which is estimated to be 225km per hour. (140 miles per hour).
As it is recorded to be a category four storm, this was the most powerful storm ever to hit the state’s Big Bend region. Some hours later, at around 9:00 GMT, authorities clarified that the hurricane changed into a storm. Despite this, they already warned about the strong winds.

Which direction is Hurricane Helene moving?
Hurricane movement has been recorded. It landed at the mouth of the Aucilla River in the Big Bend region area of Florida’s Gulf Coast.
Helene was moving towards northwards to Georgia at 05:00 GMT. According to the hurricane center the eyewall the part of the storm with the strongest winds underneath it, entered the southern part of the state.
