A representative for Beyoncé has denied reports that the singer will perform at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Thursday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Rumors circulating on entertainment websites, including TMZ and The Hill, suggested Beyoncé would take the stage on the final night of the event, when Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to formally accept the Democratic Party’s nomination. However, the representative for Beyoncé has clarified, stating, “Beyoncé was never scheduled to be there. The report of a performance is untrue.”
Harris’ campaign has remained tight-lipped about any potential special guest appearances, fueling speculation about a performance, especially given that Harris has adopted Beyoncé’s song “Freedom” as her rally anthem. Harris was seen entering the stage to the tune of the song during an appearance in Chicago on Monday, which led to further rumors that Beyoncé might be involved in the event.
Beyoncé has previously supported Harris’ campaign and endorsed President Joe Biden during the 2020 election, even sharing a photo of herself in a Biden-Harris mask and encouraging her followers to vote. The singer also gave Harris permission to use her song at rallies.
At the 2020 DNC, country band The Chicks performed the national anthem, a group that had previously collaborated with Beyoncé at the 2016 Country Music Awards. Earlier this year, Beyoncé released her album Cowboy Carter, which includes country music influences and is said to touch on political themes surrounding Black Americans and the fight for recognition of Black history.
Kamala Harris also shared her admiration for Beyoncé earlier this year, praising the artist for redefining genres and inspiring people through her music. Harris had attended one of Beyoncé’s Washington, D.C., stops during her Renaissance tour last year, further solidifying their connection.
