CD Projekt has officially ruled out a PlayStation 5 Pro patch for Cyberpunk 2077, disappointing some fans who had hoped for an enhanced version of the game to showcase the capabilities of Sony’s $700 mid-gen console upgrade.
In a tweet responding to a fan’s request, the developer stated: “We currently have no plans for PS5 Pro patch.” Despite Cyberpunk 2077 being a visual showcase and having faced high-profile performance issues, it seems CD Projekt is prioritizing other projects over this particular update.
So, what else is on the horizon for CD Projekt? The company is juggling several exciting projects, including The Witcher 4 (the first in a new trilogy set in The Witcher universe), a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, a new multiplayer The Witcher game, and even a brand-new original IP. Additionally, they’re overseeing the remake of the original The Witcher. That’s a lot of content in the works, which likely explains their shift in focus away from a PS5 Pro patch.
It’s important to note that Cyberpunk 2077 already received a free next-gen update in February 2022 for both PS5 and Xbox Series X. This update offered players the option to choose between a performance mode targeting 60 frames per second and 4K resolution, or a ray tracing mode running at 30fps.
While the PS5 Pro has improved many existing PS4 and PS5 titles, it has also introduced unexpected issues with some games, such as the Silent Hill 2 remake and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. It seems CD Projekt is choosing to focus on more significant updates rather than a patch for this mid-gen console.
