In an exciting announcement for Gears of War fans, Xbox Game Studios has confirmed that the upcoming prequel, Gears of War: E-Day, will bring back the iconic voices of Marcus Fenix and Dominic “Dom” Santiago, with original voice actors John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro returning to their respective roles.
This news coincides with the 18th anniversary of the Gears of War series, which first debuted on Xbox 360 on November 7, 2006. To mark the occasion, the official Gears of War account on X (formerly Twitter) shared the exciting update, expressing their enthusiasm for the reunion: “We are so back. 🤜🤛 On today’s 18th anniversary of Gears of War, we’re proud to share that John DiMaggio and @RealCarlosFerro are reprising their roles as the iconic voices of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago in Gears of War: E-Day.”
Gears of War: E-Day is set 14 years before the events of the first game, focusing on a younger Marcus and Dom as soldiers in the Coalition of Ordered Governments. The story unfolds on the planet Sera, where peace is shattered when the deadly Locust Horde emerges on Emergence Day, threatening humanity’s existence. The game will also introduce the city of Kalona, which will play a key role in the story.
Currently in development by the Coalition, Gears of War: E-Day does not yet have a release date, but it is expected to be an Xbox Series X|S exclusive. There have been rumors about the series potentially making its way to PlayStation 5, and even Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski has expressed support for the franchise’s expansion to Sony’s platform, despite having left the series years ago.
