Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition (GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition) has received an unexpected update three years after its troubled 2021 launch. This new patch brings several mobile-exclusive features, including the much-anticipated Classic Lighting mode, to PC and console versions, alongside a range of “numerous fixes and improvements.”
The remaster, which includes GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas, was initially met with backlash due to its many bugs, glitches, and subpar character models, all of which made it a frustrating experience for players. However, the mobile version of the trilogy, released exclusively for Netflix subscribers a year later, was met with a much warmer reception. Rockstar had taken the time to refine and optimize the titles, earning positive feedback from fans.
With this latest update, PC and console players can now experience the remastered games with the same level of quality as their mobile counterparts. Fans of the franchise are noticing the improvements, with GTA and Rockstar enthusiast BeskInfinity sharing a detailed comparison of the update. They highlighted the Classic Lighting mode, which Rockstar describes as “restoring the look and feel of the sky in the original games,” as one of the key enhancements.
In addition to the lighting improvements, players have reported various other fixes, including refined animations, restored beach bushes, and better fire effects. These changes have prompted many former critics to reconsider the game, with some who passed on the trilogy at launch now claiming it’s worth picking up.
For fans of the franchise, this update signals a renewed chance to enjoy these classics in their best form yet.
