Harris to Speak on Reproductive Freedom at Texas Rally with Beyonce

Vice President Kamala Harris is set to deliver a speech on reproductive freedom at a rally in Texas on Friday, a senior campaign official confirmed. With the election closing in, Harris is emphasizing abortion rights as a key issue against her Republican opponent, specifically holding former President Donald Trump responsible for abortion bans enacted in multiple states. Campaign officials noted that Texas, as a central battleground in the fight over abortion rights, was strategically chosen for this rally.

The Houston event will feature Texas natives, including music icon Beyoncé, as well as Amanda and Josh Zurawski, the couple who sued the state over its strict abortion laws after Amanda faced life-threatening pregnancy complications but could not access an abortion. Also attending will be Shanette Williams, mother of Amber Nicole Thurman, who tragically died from a treatable infection due to delays in care stemming from Georgia’s restrictive abortion law.

Harris has been a strong voice for abortion rights since her time on the Biden campaign, and her team recently released a new ad, “He Did It,” targeting Trump’s role in the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade. For the first time in this election, the campaign has also bought local Texas ad time to coincide with Harris’s visit.

Throughout her campaign stops, Harris has consistently framed restrictive abortion measures as a “health care crisis” and pointed to Trump as “the architect of this crisis.” Texas stands out with one of the country’s strictest abortion bans, prohibiting the procedure after six weeks, except in life-threatening cases for the mother, enforced after the 2022 Supreme Court ruling.

During her time in Houston, Harris will join Democratic Senate candidate Rep. Colin Allred in a push to unseat GOP Senator Ted Cruz. She will also engage in media outreach, including an interview with popular podcaster Brene Brown, as part of her strategy to connect with voters across platforms.
