Unveiling the Secrets of Lake Michigan: Sinkholes and Shipwrecks Lure Adventurous Divers

Lake of Michigan in U.S is a beautiful place with huge area of 22,405 sq. mi (58, 0303) km, due to its attraction divers used to come here and visit a masterpiece of nature. On august 1, some of the divers went down deep and discovered a mystery of sinkholes that had formed on the lakebed. Topic of discussion is how these sinkholes formed and what the story of sinkholes it has is. Since the discovery of this mysterious masterpiece, it has become more curious and place to visit in U.S. it reveals the actual background of sinkholes and shipwrecks in it. According to the size of this lake, this is obvious to find shipwrecks in it that had sink 100 of years ago or less.

An eerie discovery at Michigan Lake

An eerie discovery of structures at the iconic U.S Lake could reveal some of the mysteries about the lakebed. Scientists were discovering about the area that was known for the home of shipwrecks. During this they discovered some the of the mysteries. This was the area of Michigan that attains 36 shipwrecks. They discovered great depression under 1000 of feet’s. Scientists feel hesitance in explaining about the sinkholes that they have discovered those belong to Lake Huron in U.S.

From here, we can have the idea that how earth supports life as they have found 40 t0 36 holes that can explain this. Size of these sinkholes measures between 500 to 1000 feet.

Sonar images of two years ago have explained first two sinkholes that are found in Lake Michigan and are not man made. Scientists at the great lake environmental research laboratory have found with the help of a remotely operating vehicle on august 21 that the holes are massive, naturally occurring craters. These were of almost same sizes and are like giant Olympics swimming pools.

Formation of sinkholes

This gives a way to a very new area of research that how these were formed, what is the geological structure and process of this. How and why they are giant. What has to do with these sinkholes? Wisconsin maritime museum director Kevin Cullen to tmj4 news has discussed this all.

The craters were found 450 feet under the water, about 14 miles southeast of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. They stretch south toward Port Washington in the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary. So far, scientists have discovered 40 sinkholes but think there are more.

Any new discovery in the Great Lakes is exciting, said Russ Green, a maritime archaeologist and superintendent of GLERL, to Live Science. However, these really stand out — they are in deeper water, about 500 feet, and, as far as we know, no one had noticed them before.

In simple, we can say that, these sinkholes are the craters that have been discovered by some chemicals named. This is very unclear that how these were formed but it can be predicted that how it can change the environment. It will happen because of the limitations of oxygen and Sulphur.

Brendon Baillod

There is another prediction of Brendon baillod that they may have formed due to hydrocarbon off gassing.

We still know very little about the Great Lakes, with only about 15 percent of their lakebeds mapped. Scientists are trying to use bigger instruments and vehicles to map the lakes properly.

Scientists have even said that we know more about the surface and ecosystem of Mars than the Great Lakes.

We will be studying them for years to understand how they formed and what role they play in Lake Michigan’s ecosystem, Green told Live Science.
