Israel Warns of Increased Strikes on Hezbollah's Financial Network

On Sunday, Israel announced that they would attack Hezbollah’s financial arm that is al qard al Hassan with the proper plan of ‘striking a large number of targets’ in the region of Beirut and other surrounding areas. Explosions followed about an hour later in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

They had already warned southern Beirut to evacuate the area, the Bekaa Valley and parts of southern Lebanon. According to the report, AP video captured the footage of the strike near Lebanon airport, though it remained operational.

Israel’s strikes are focused on al-Qard al-Hassan, an organization that supports Hezbollah operatives and arms purchases. Al Qard al Hassan is an organization that supports Hezbollah for its armed weapons and its purchases. Israel now strikes on to that because they want to make them weaker and get on them. That is why they are going to attack the Qard Hassan organization for Hezbollah’s support.

A senior Israeli intelligence official, speaking anonymously, said the strikes would target the group “all over Lebanon.” The organization, sanctioned by the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, provides financial services to ordinary Lebanese as well. Its name, meaning “the benevolent loan” in Arabic, highlights its role in supporting the Shiite community amid Lebanon’s failing financial system. He stated that anonymously for a reason. However, it is under target now and will have a big impact on it.

David Asher, a senior at the Hudson Institute and expert on illicit financing, explained the significance of targeting al Qard al Hassan. This organization is based on cash. The cash will lose its worth after the attack, he stated,’’ noting its links to major Lebanese banks. ‘’

This organization responded to Israel’s warning that it may be a sign of Israel’s bankruptcy and convinced the customers or depositors that their funds would remain safe because they were planning to protect themselves from attack. Residents of the surrounding areas have been evacuated in Beirut.

A mistaken evacuation notice added to the confusion, as Israel’s military incorrectly labeled a target in Choueifat as a cinema in central Beirut, causing panic.

The escalation follows a year of rising tensions and cross-border fire between Israel and Hezbollah, which intensified into full-scale war last month. Israeli ground forces entered Lebanon earlier this month.

Israel’s announcement came a day after U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed concern over the high number of civilian casualties in Lebanon and urged Israel to reduce strikes, particularly in and around Beirut.
